I just had ten minutes with former GOP member of Congress Joe Scarborough on his radio show. While he agreed DeLay has gone too far -- citing the firing of two members of the Ethics Committee, Reps. Joel Hefley (R-CO) and Kenny Hulshof (R-MO) -- Joe basically stuck with the "everyone's doing it" defense.
The problem with that is all too evident. The system is broken, so let's just throw up our hands and say nothing can be done while big money interests and their congressional friends like Tom DeLay scratch each other's backs. With tax dollars, the quality of people's lives, our security, and other critical decisions at stake in Washington, this "everyone's doing it" defense just falls too short and is too defeatist.
But Joe let me give the reasons why DeLay should go, and tried to give out our campaign URL (it's www.withoutdelay.org, not .com, but thanks).
One question I was hoping to ask him, but ran out of time:
Joe, if you were a member of Congress today, would you keep silent about DeLay's scandals or would you speak out? Would you suggest to him, as a loyal Republican, that he is doingmore harm than good now for your party?
Maybe you can answer on your "blog"?!?
We'll have a recording of the show in a little while.
