An op-ed from Bill Press warns GOP that a train wreck is coming unless they get behind the wheel of the ethics process.
The San Antonio Express-News covers Rep. Lamar Smith insistence he can be a fair-minded member of the Ethics Committee, despite giving DeLay's legal defense fund $10,000 and helped TRMPAC raise lots of money. Fair-minded... Right. Will Smith get a refund if DeLay is guilty? Will DeLay need more money for legal defense if he's hauled in front of Smith and the rest of the committee? Maybe, if that happens, they can just have a fundraising instead. (Thanks to Houtopia.com for the tip.)
The St. Louis Post-Dispatch raises interesting questions about DeLay and the power-hungry understudy, Rep. Roy Blunt (R-MO). Is Blunt angling to climb the leadership ladder if DeLay goes? How much will those who want DeLay's position have to defend him and how much behind the scenes maneuvering must they set in motion to spring at a moment's notice. Sub rosa leadership fights like this result in lots of tea leave-reading and palace intrigue. Any rumors?
