Our Executive Director, Nick Nyhart, has packed his bags and a few copies of the Voters First Pledge and headed to New York for a few days to take part in activities organized by Citizen Action of New York's (CANY) Federal PAC to talk about the Voters First Pledge and make personal visits to candidates asking them to sign.
Today, October 24th, Nick will first join representatives from CANY and Democratic challenger Kirsten Gillibrand (NY-20) at 11AM in Albany for the release of CANY's report “Sweeney for Sale: Top 10 Times John Sweeney Has Sold New Yorkers Out for Special Interest Money,” on Rep. John Sweeney's ties to special interst money. Gillibrand will publicly sign the Voters First Pledge at this event.
Next Nick heads to the Civic Center in Syracuse, NY at 4PM as CANY unveils it's report "Walsh for Sale" on Rep. Jim Walsh's (R-25) ties to special interest money, and Walsh's opponent, Dan Maffei, publicly signs the Voters First Pledge to clean up Congress.
Wednesday, October 25th, Nick will visit the campaign headquarters of Rep. Tom Reynolds (8261 Old Post Road East, Clarence, NY) and his challenger Jim Davis (9290 Hunt Club Lane, Clarence, NY) starting at 3:30PM, asking both candidates to sign the Voters First Pledge.
To date, over 350 federal candidates have signed the voters first pledge to support Clean Elections-style publicly financed elections, enhanced ethics and lobbying restrictions, and greater transparency of the fundraising done by lobbyists for candidates.
