Speaker of the House John Boehner (R-Ohio), who has already raised $70 million this cycle for himself and others, will join Rep. Dan Lungren (R-Calif.) for a fundraiser on Wednesday at the home of billionaire Tom Siebel. Siebel, who is worth $1.8 billion, lives in Woodside, one of the wealthiest towns in the country. Other members expected to attend include California Republican Reps. Jeff Denham, David Dreier, and Wally Herger.
You’ll need to pony up $1,000 to get in the door, $5,000 for a photo with the speaker, $10,000 to host, and $38,500 to be a “co-chair.”
Lungren is no stranger to leaving his home district to raise money. In fact, just 17 percent of the money he raised in 2011 came from inside his district, according to an analysis by Public Campaign Action Fund of his campaign fundraising reports.
Lungren, who has called for ending contribution limits on donations to candidates, faced some trouble in his last election for exploiting a loophole in House ethics rules to raise money in Hawaii on the tab of lobbyists.
