The Senate will be in recess next week for the Memorial Day holiday and “state work period.” While many Senators will go back to their states starting tomorrow for Memorial Day parades or cookouts, at least two—Sens. Mike Enzi (R-Wyo.) and Jeff Sessions (R-Ala.)—have some other business to take care of first: fundraising.
Sen. Enzi is hosting the “Annual Key West Classic” in Key West, Florida for his Making Business Excel PAC. If you want to go, it’s just $5,000. Alabama Sen. Jeff Sessions (R) will be a “special guest.”
The invite provided by the Sunlight Foundation from the National Republican Senatorial Committee doesn’t mention the location, but it is likely the Casa Marina, a "Waldorf-Astoria Resort" in Key Largo where Enzi's PAC spent thousands of dollars last May. A picture from the resort’s website, featuring a Rolls-Royce, is below.
We don’t know who will be in attendance, but so far in 2012 donors to his PAC include several lobbyists and PACs for energy, insurance, and pharmaceutical companies.
While an event like this might seem par for the course for Sens. Enzi, Sessions and their colleagues, Wyoming and Alabama residents probably don’t see resort fundraisers the same way.
