Whether you call it "recess" or "district work period," August is the month when members of Congress are supposed to go home to meet with constituents, hold town hall meetings, and generally reconnect with their state or district.
It's also a good time to raise money. While many House members and Senators have fundraisers scheduled this month back home, one we noticed happening this weekend sticks out.
Sens. Mike Crapo (R-Idaho), John Barrasso (R-Wyo.), and John Boozman (R-Ark.) are co-hosting a getaway trip to Colorado Springs, Colorado this weekend to raise money for Sen. Jerry Moran's (R-Kan.) leadership political action committee, the Free State PAC.
None of the four senators represent the state of Colorado and none are up for re-election in 2014, but they'll be spending a weekend of their "work period" schmoozing with big donors who hand over $1,500 or $3,000.
Below are a few pictures of the resort (that we took from the website). It looks nice!
