There are lists you campaign to be on (People's 50 Most Beautiful, Forbes Power List, Santa's "nice" list) and those you campaign to get off. In the latter category falls CREW's Most Corrupt Members of Congress [1], the annual tally from the Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington of those elected officials who have been very, very naughty.
It's a list of bipartisan badness, and it has some repeat customers including a few names that make a regular appearance on this page, like Reps. Jerry Lewis (R-CA), Don Young (R-AK), William Jefferson (D-LA), former Rep. John Doolittle (R-CA), and Sens. Mitch McConnell (R-KY) and Ted Stevens (R-AK). Jack Abramoff may have been carted off to jail but make no mistake that the stench of corruption still hangs over Washington and the need to address the root causes of the problem is still acute.
All of these folks (excepting Doolittle) are up for re-election this year. Perhaps Jefferson can lend Stevens some advice on campaigning for reelection while under indictment. Or Lewis could slip Young a note about passing off the earmarks you made for your lobbyist friends as "constituent services." Sharing is caring kids!
